'When should you start shopping for your wedding dress'?

This is one of the most common questions we get asked by new brides to be so we thought we’d do a little blog piece on it to help with some advice on when we think you should go shopping for your wedding dress.

We think the one year mark is most ideal when going shopping for your wedding dress and this is for a number reasons.

Firstly, some brands of dresses can take up to eight months to arrive in store. Remember you will need to leave plenty of time for alterations before your wedding on top of this so shopping a year in advance allows you to have plenty of time for alterations and doesn’t limit your options from brands you can look at. Most of the wedding dress brands we stock take considerably less than this to arrive in, but shopping at the year mark ensures you have full choice. It also means you can have time to think about the dress if you feel you need to without feeling under pressure timewise.

Secondly, the collection for the following year will be in the boutiques at this stage. In fact as we write this, our spring/ summer 2018 collections are beginning to arrive instore. (Super exciting!) Although there isn’t a considerable difference between seasons for wedding dresses, the new collections will have updated and emerging trends.

Thirdly, I personally believe its a little easier shopping for your wedding dress in the same season as you are getting married.  For example, if you are getting married in July, it’s more difficult to imagine your summer wedding if you are in the boutique on a dark December evening with snow outside. This is important for how you feel in your dress on the day also- does it feel too warm/ will you need a cover up and lots of other considerations.

But my most important piece of advice I offer brides when I get asked this questions is- when is best for you?! All brides are different and go with your gut feeling about what is right for you. Some brides are super organised and like to get their dress sorted as early as possible as they will stress about this closer to the time. The sooner you pick your wedding dress, the sooner it is in store and the more organised everything can be takes the stress out of those final weeks, reassured everything is perfect with your gown. We have brides that chose their gown 2 years in advance for this reason.

Other brides worry about committing to a dress too early and are worried they will see something else in the meantime. This is fine too, just remember though that gowns can be discontinued or the sample can be sold off so if you love a dress, be sure to keep in touch with the boutique.  You will know which will be best for you- if you’d like to have it picked so you aren’t stressing about it or if you’d like more time to ensure you’ve seen everything before deciding.

Finally, my last piece of advice is if you haven’t been shopping before, I personally wouldn’t recommend going to a sample sale first. Your first shopping experience should be special and sample sale days can be a little hectic with you feeling pressured to make a decision. There also isn’t the usual consultation you can expect in a bridal appointment that will help you assess the different styles you like. Having done at least one normal bridal appointment before attending a sample sale will mean you will know you’ve tried lots of shapes and styles and are making the right decision.

Each seasons brings about much more versatility for bridesmaid’s styles than before. Brides are increasingly looking for something different for their bridal party and to help distinguish their wedding party. At the moment, really anything goes for bridesmaids from white jumpsuits to full lace gowns, we’ve picked the most popular trends we see coming forward for 2017 weddings. 

Sparkle

Brides and Bridesmaids are definitely getting more adventurous when it comes to bridesmaids dresses and are looking for a lot more details than the classic chiffon bridesmaids’ dress. Our True Bride collection is very popular at the moment as it offers a stunning collection of gowns with added details such as cowl backs, beading, embellishment and sequins. These dresses are available in up to ninety different shades so there’s lots of options for each bridal party to change the look. Lots of the designs also feature a cap sleeve which offers a little more coverage so is ideal for winter bridesmaids as it doesn’t need any of the traditional winter cover ups such as fur stoles. These dresses are simply stunning when teamed with a simple, elegant wedding gown as the contrast really makes the bride stand out!

Mix N Match  

Mix n Match bridesmaids have become so popular over the last few seasons, particularly the idea of bridesmaids wearing different styles in the same shade. We’re a huge fan of this approach to bridesmaids as it ensures each girl has a style of gown that suits them and they feel comfortable with, while still matching the overall theme of the day.  Brides are getting more adventurous though and next season, we will see a lot more bridal parties with both different styles and colours of gowns. To get the look right, we recommend sticking within a colour palette so the dresses are similar shades or tones. For example -match berry tones together or soft blushes with rose gold tones.

Separates  

The separates trend is a biggie in bridal fashion and it’s no surprise that it’s filtered into the bridesmaid realm too. With great flexibility for fit, colour and style, we’re a huge fan of this trend. Lending itself perfectly to the mix n’ match concept, the two piece approach is also great for colour blocking and allows easier fitting for a range of body types.  Bridesmaids in separates is probably the biggest bridesmaid trends we’ll see emerging and developing next year.

Hello Lovelies! 

This week in our Yes to the Dress feature we are focusing on one of the most loved new dresses from our Stella York Fall 2017 collection. The stunning 6341 by Stella York encompasses so many of the wedding dress style trends for 2017, we adore it! 

6341 is a super romantic dress, the top layer of French tulle is floaty while the lace underskirt is fitted, enhancing those feminine curves. It features a strapless sweetheart neckline with tulle gathers. This combined with the diamante beading at the waist really emphasises the waistline and makes this dress very flattering on!

And the back is just as pretty on this wedding dress with fabric covered buttons which conceal the zip.  There's lots of colour options in this gown, ivory over ivory as featured in the photos and which is the same as our sample in the boutique. It also comes in Ivory over almond or white.  

We love (and so do our brides) the tulle overskirt on this dress which makes it a modern twist on classic lace wedding dress and a new look for 2017 brides. 

In terms of styling, we couldn't not pair this dress with blush to match the romantic look of this gown. We love a blush bridesmaid’s combination with this gown but perhaps mix and matched with nudes to keep the look fresh and on trend for 2017. This is the perfect spring/ summer dress to us so we also chose a light grey suit for the bridal party to keep the look fresh.

Hi Girls!

We are so excited to have a few new dresses in this week, one of which is this amazing D2175 dress from Essence of Australia. By now, Essence of Australia are well known for their more detailed, slim fitting dresses but are really branching out with their new collection and we love it!

This dress is in an A-line style that would suit any figure. This dress in particular would give the illusion of a smaller waist because of the way it flares out just below the waist and because of the thick waist belt. It has a fitted ruched bodice and very defined sweetheart neckline that is very flattering on the bust.

The skirt is made from tulle and Regency organza. It is quite a light material and has a beautiful way of catching the light that would make this dress perfect for a summer wedding.

As I mentioned, this brand is well known for its attention to detail and this dress is no different. The shoulder straps, back trim and waistline all have hand-sewn diamante beading. It has a sweep train, perfect for outdoor brides wanting to add a touch of glamour to their wedding. The zip up back is covered by fabric buttons going down the length of the back.

This dress is available in the colours ivory, moscato and white.

The Essence of Australia website shows photos of the dress in the colour moscato along with a white bouquet which we love. The perfect addition to such a simple dress. The simplicity of dress could be matched perfectly by grey bridesmaids with blush pink bouquets to complement the bride. We love the idea of somehow tying the groomsmen to the bridesmaids. How perfect would this grey suit and boutonniere be if you wanted to match the two?

So, would you say yes to this dress?

I can't believe we haven't chosen the beautiful Pippin wedding dress from Watters before for our Say Yes to the Dress feature as it's definitely one of our favourite gowns of the moment. We are delighted to be exclusive stockist for Wtoo and Willowby (formerly Love Marley) wedding gowns in Donegal and the North West of Ireland. Immediately when we visited the stands at the Harrogate wedding fair last year, we knew we had to have these stunning dresses in our boutique and Pippin among a few other Watters dresses were our favourite purchases from the shows....and we bought lots! 

We adore the modern lace on this dress and intricate beading. It really is a modern take on a vintage look and we find that many brides who are finding other laces too traditional for them, fall, totally head over heels for Pippin. The lace comes in an off white colour and there is several options for the lining which transform the look of this dress. Lining colours include white, ivory, blush, almond, rose gold and champagne. Our store sample has the rose gold lining and we find this is the most popular choice among brides who chose this dress also. 

The dress has beautiful modified sweetheart neckline, however it is possible to add straps to this gown and we've ordered a little extra lace to allow this option for our brides to add a strap if preferred. A delicate off the shoulder strap is stunning on this dress. 

A lot with the intricate and detailed beading which makes this dress shimmer throughout, it features covered buttons which run to the base of the train, think Pippa Middleton style. 

But probably the best feature of this wedding dress is the geometric pattern of the lace. This gown is carefully designed to accentuate your curves and creates a beautiful, sexy silhouette. Brides love the way this dress makes them feel and how fabulous their figure looks in this gown. One bride cried as she hadn't felt this beautiful since having her kids and the associated changes to her body and witnessing those great moments is what makes us love our job as much as we do! 

In terms of styling, we would really play up on the rose gold and blush tones in this dress. For bridesmaids, there are a few different looks we like with this gown depending on how you want the overall look of your day to flow. Rose gold sequin bridesmaids would be a glam addition to the bridal look. Blush and various shades of pink also work with this gown as does Ivory bridesmaids which really makes the bride stand out. A sharp navy suit for your groom keeps the look modern in keeping with the modern lace on your dress.

Happy Friday Peeps! Hope you are enjoying the glorious weather. This week marked a little changeover for us with most of our July brides having now moved on to their alterations stage and our August and September bride's dresses are arriving! It is just me or is it scary how quick this year is going?! With lots of weddings in July and August and a lot of 2017 summer brides booked in to see us over the summer and the taste of sunny weather we've got this week- we're very excited for summer at pearls and lace!

Hi girls!

So it’s finally coming to the end of spring which means yes, the season of casual, rustic summer weddings is well on its way. This week we’re looking at a Mikaella dress that would be perfect for one of those weddings.

This dress, style 2056, has a delicate lace bodice with a strapless modified sweetheart neckline, a softer, more subtle take on the sweetheart neckline.

The skirt is satin with a fit and flare shape that really emphasises the curves in all the right places. The shaped seams on the front and back of the skirt add so much dimension and depth along with making the dress flow beautifully.

The invisible zipper, along with the Swarovski buttons and loops add a certain touch of glamour to it. The removable Mokuba Ribbon at the waist really finishes the dress off perfectly, as well as adding that rustic feel that we all love so much.

The lace illusion back of the dress really shows off the stunning detail that Mikaella pride themselves on.

This dress is also available in both natural lave with pearl lining or natural lace with latte lining in the bodice, while the diamond satin skirt stays the same.

Everything about this dress, from the soft, simple neckline to the flowing cathedral train will give the bride a feeling of sophistication and elegance on her big day, something the Mikaella are well known for.

As for the styling, Mikaella have styled this with casual, natural hair and makeup and a flower crown, which we love. We think these teal bridesmaid dresses would really complement this bride, especially if you chose to keep the brown ribbon on the dress.  

We love how fun this teal and brown bouquet is too, such a perfect way for the bride to tie in with the bridesmaids.

And how cute is this copper and teal combo for the tables? Ideal for an outside summer wedding.

Brown suits for the men would finish this rustic wedding look off perfectly and would look great beside the bride and bridesmaids.

This week we have an amazing dress from Martina Liana in our 'Yes to the Dress' feature. We first got this wedding dress in for a Martina Liana trunk show late last summer and we instantly fell in love with it and so did our brides. This dress is so simple and understated yet has over 10,000 sparkling glass beads and Swarovski crystals. 

The neckline and back on this gown is delicately beaded with the fine glass beads and crystals. It also features an illusion neckline that offers support but gives the look of a modern sweetheart. 

The back of this Martina Liana wedding dress zips up to the waist with crepe-covered buttons closing over to conceal the zip and add a feature to the illusion backline. Those that love buttons will love them on this gown.

The sheath fabric of this dress ensures the perfect fit, it hugs the figure in all the right places yet is heavy and rich enough to feel supported and luxurious. It features a slim chapel length train which gracefully sweeps the floor due to the weight of the crepe. It also has buttons right to the very tip of the train.

We are quite matchy-matchy when it comes to bridesmaids so we love when we find a style that compliments a wedding dress real well. We love this bridesmaids dress (2964) from the Dessy Group which has a similar illusion neckline and plain crepe fabric. 

Overall this dress is quite modern with understated elegance and we'd base much of the wedding styling on this concept. A sharp navy suit for the groom would work well with this dress to keep the look modern and fresh. Navy and Lavender are lovely together so this colour combination could be then used to theme the rest of the rest of the wedding elements.

One of the latest 2016/2017 bridesmaids trends is 'high low' bridesmaids dresses. A "High Low" dress has a shorter hem in the front of a dress or skirt and a longer hem in the back. This style of dress is very versatile as the shorter hem on the front doesn't swamp smaller, petite frames yet is equally gorgeous on and popular among our taller bridesmaids. We currently stock two different styles of high low bridesmaids dresses in the boutique, both which can be styled very differently and are suited to two different styles of wedding. 

The first is our gorgeous After Six 6718 style from Dessy. This bridesmaids dress features a beautiful halter neckline with full length matte satin skirt and hi-low hem detail. It also comes with a little belt which matches the skirt colour...which brings us to one of our favourite features of this dress- the wide range of colours its available in. You can opt for a two tone dress with different colour bodice and skirt or all one colour. The monochrome look featured below is particularly popular in this style. The fabric and full skirt in this dress make it suitable for a more formal, traditional themed wedding. Oh and did we mention...it has pockets...a favourite with bridesmaids! 

The second High Low Bridesmaids dress we have in the boutique is this beauty from Sorella Vita. This bridesmaids dress is perfectly suited to a more casual, beachside wedding. It features a crossed-sweetheart bodice and delicate spaghetti straps. The wrapped skirt has an asymmetrical dipped hem. Again this bridesmaids dress is available in lots of colour options though, the coral and mint greens are our favourites in this gown! 

We would style both these looks quite differently! With the Dessy bridesmaids dress we would keep the look very simple and elegant but with a pop of colour. We have chosen a beehive wedding hair style, matching blue shoe and flowers that complement the tones in the dress and pull everything together. 

The Sorella Vita gown we would style much more casually with simple flowers, pops of colour on the nails, we particularly love mint and gold together so we would suggest gold accessories with this dress. The groomsmen suits then kept that little more casual also to reflect the bridesmaids look also!

Happy Tuesday Everyone! Today we have a gorgeous bridal gown to share with you in our 'Say Yes to the Dress' feature. The beautiful 744 from Martina Liana is one of the newest dresses to hit the boutique and it features many of the wedding dress trends for 2016/2017 that we love! 

744 features a sexy deep v neck which is one of the most on trend necklines for 2016/17 brides. We love how this neckline creates the illusion of length in shorter girls which has made it particularly popular with petite brides. 

Brides are also loving the fit and flare silhouette of this wedding dress. It has just enough volume at the bottom without being too full or heavy. Surprisingly even though this gown features a stunning, long train, it remains quite light and manageable. Comfort is becoming more and more important for brides when searching for their wedding dress and this is definitely a gown in which you could enjoy your day and dance until the early hours without compromising on that all important wow factor. 

Probably our favourite feature of this wedding dress is the delicate pearl beading. We love pearl detailing on gowns (hence the name pearls and lace!). This gown features fine pearl beads on the straps, v neck line and deep v back. 

It features a modern lace over matte-side lustre satin and there is a huge range of colour options available in this gown. 

The back is equally as stunning as the front of this gown. The low v back zips up under crystal buttons and the train begins just underneath the bum creating curves in all the right places. 

In terms of styling, the team at Martina Liana have featured this gown with a black tie groom and neutral flowers which is stunning. We have picked a grey bridesmaids dress to compliment the tones in this look. And how stunning is this flower décor on the staircase!

Our new collection dresses have started to arrive and we're totally in love with this new wedding dress from Essense of Australia. D2000 is a gorgeous ball gown that is both classic and elegant with a touch of modern glamour. 

It has beautiful beaded lace throughout the bodice and skirt which really catches the light gorgeously. The skirt is voluminous but as it's a tulle skirt, it's a really light and easy to wear fabric. One of our favourite things about this wedding dress is the amazing beaded waist that really accentuates the natural waist line and makes it very slimming and flattering on all figures. 

The bodice is very fitted and features our favourite sweetheart neckline. We've discussed the benefits of sweet heart necklines before and why we love them so much! Sweetheart wedding dresses are one of the most popular styles of wedding gowns partly because this neckline is so flattering on both fuller and smaller busts. 

There's also lots of options when it comes to this wedding dress. You can choose from a corset or zipper closure with sparkling crystal buttons. Our sample features the zipper and crystal button closure and we love it! 

We love this wedding dress styled with classic suits and bridesmaids for a classic yet modern look. Pictured below this dress is gorgeous with a black tie groom in sharp, simple tuxedo. Pale pink bridesmaids keeps the look classic but adds a touch of colour making this look perfect for a spring/ summer wedding. The sweetheart neckline allows the bride to wear her hair down without covering any details of the dress, we love this volumous look. Finally we've chosen a large bouquet with soft pinks and greens to finish the look!

2016 is here and it's very exciting to see all the new trends coming through for 2016 brides and bridesmaids. If you've been on Pinterest even once in the last two years you'll definitely have seen the beautiful gold sequin bridesmaids dresses that have so popular with pinners. These dresses first arrived with us in June and our brides and bridesmaids alike have been absolutely loving them. They are flattering on all figures and the slight stretch in the fabric means they are comfortable without being clingy. 

The original trend was the gold sequin dress that featured a beautiful cap sleeve and cowl back however for 2016, we see a brides getting a little more adventurous and delving into the other colours and styles available. These dresses are currently available in gold sequin, rose gold sequin, black sequin, navy sequin and a platinum silver sequin. We see the rose gold version being a huge trend for this year!

Gold is back with a bang! This season has brides with warm tones in their hair going for gold, whilst silver accessories might look too cold in contrast. I love hair vines at the minute and they really stand out more in gold I just love the royal look to this!

Or why not opt for a simply stunning hair comb instead? I love this one from ivory & co we have it in sliver in the shop but it can be ordered in gold as well, this hair comb is a really dainty elegant piece influenced by sophisticated 1920's jewellery. Dazzling cut solitaire and marquise stones have been interspersed with pale ivory natural lustre man made pearls. It's December....Yay! We are so excited for December this year! Along with lots of our lovely brides tying the knot this month, we've some extra special birthdays, holidays and not to forget Christmas! What's not to love?!

Pearls are a lovely idea that brings a decorative touch to your wedding. Decorated in dresses, bouquets, cakes and even chair decorations, these pearls will definitely achieve a vintage look.

Adding little hints of pearls to chairs or lanterns really makes them pop, I love this look with some pink and white roses, It all ties in to a vintage look that’s flawless! How adorable is that table number frame? Just love it!

A unplugged wedding is the new and upcoming trend bride & grooms are loving, while we are living in a new generation of social media we all are guilty of having our phones in our hands the majority of the time. With a big event like a wedding, this is the biggest insta worthy snaps your guests will be diein for!

Your wedding will fly in and if you are on your phone you’ll miss out on what’s really important. It’s the day where you must put the phone down and enjoy the moments with your guest that have come to share the day with you instead of updating your social media accounts! (Snapchat we are talking about you! lol) If you really must, you could assign one of your bridesmaids to do the snaps for you, but I personality think this should be left to the photographer who you are paying for, the last thing you need is for someone to be getting in the way of the photographer with their smartphone (Which will just get bad quality photos comparted to the expensive camera your photographer will have) you hired a photographer for a reason after all.

To spread the word about your unplugged ceremony, start by telling your family & close friends about it, with that done then you could add a note to your invites with something like , "We invite you to be fully present with us at the ceremony and ask that you refrain from taking photos." You could also have a sign up before the ceremony if your worried.  As long as you're polite about it, your guests will respect your decision!

Dusty blue complements cranberry perfectly, add a little touch of greenery and you have yourself the trendiest wedding of the year, you family and friends will be in awe over this beautiful colour scheme. Ever since I stumbled across this colour combination on Pinterest I fell in love with it. There’s something so elegant and almost fairytale like, about this stunning wedding theme.  

Bridesmaids could be dresses either in dusty blue or cranberry with alternative bouquets for the colour to stand out more. Now I have chosen there bridesmaids dresses from dessy they are the 2945 bridesmaids dresses, I chose these because they are a classic shape with gorgeous lace on top. The lace comes in some different colour options but here I have chosen ivory lace over a few different shades to show how versatile this dress is. It is a full length sleeveless marquis lace and nu-georgette dress. The lace bodice has bateau neckline and open back. A little bow belt that matches lace colour for a finishing touch.

 The bride and groom can keep as traditional as they want, and by adding a pop of colour to match the theme in their accessories really creates a sophisticated, stylish and versatile look.

New Year’s Eve is the one night of the year where people reflect on the past year and look ahead to the next….and many brides choose to have their wedding celebration be a part of the night fun. Who doesn’t love New Year’s Eve? It’s the most fabulous day of the year, so why not pair it with the soon to be most fabulous event of your life? Your wedding day! What better way to ring in the new year than to say “I do” with all your friends and family!!

A festive winter weddings are becoming more and more popular, and I can see why,from champagne toasts to sparkly table designs.  New Years is all about glam and sparkle and new beginnings. Quite similar to how you would describe a wedding day.  

If you’re thinking of having a fabulous New Years Eve wedding, be sure you book your venue far in advance. Lots of venues offer a New Years Eve dinner party to the public, and (depending on if they are in high demand) may not offer a private venue that evening. As for your wedding music, ring your favourite band/DJ before they are booked!

A few things about New Year’s Eve Weddings that are a great reason to have one is, firstly you will save loads on decorations as the venue will still have decorations up from the holidays this is a major savings for any bride to be.

Today we are bringing you the form-fitting, boldly eye-catching “Idde” by La Sposa from the spring 2014 collection. This week we’ve been working on putting together a look book for a creative shoot we have coming shortly with some of Donegal’s finest wedding suppliers! We’re really excited to be putting together the look but choosing which three wedding dresses to use is like choosing which of your babies you love the most but alas we can only have three! We think we’re going to use the shoot to showcase some of the stunning new wedding dresses that we have coming in from some amazing new designers! Can’t wait to tell you about them…but all in good time! But in the meantime, I have got carried away by this wedding makeup look…how fabulous is the purple/plum lip colour. New Crush!

I do believe that all brides should have a clutch on their wedding day, if not for the practicality of having your little essentials close at hand when you want to be looking on point for photos but how fabulous these can be for accessorising your own wedding day look. You won’t have your clutch with you to the ceremony with your hands busy holding the bouquet and your new hubbies hands but I think it’s a lovely, fun way to show a little of your personality and individual style later in the day. Anyone who’s been on our Facebook page this week will already know we’ve a lot of love for sequins this week- we’ve already featured both our rose gold and navy sequins bridesmaid’s dresses from Sorella Vita. People love options and people LOVE good food. Hire a food truck to set up shop outside of your venue and watch guests go crazy over the late night snacks. This will instantly refuel your friends and family and prompt a ton of foodie Instagram pics. I was recently at a wedding and they had an ice cream truck outside ready for when we came out of the chapel on the hot summers day, it was a great idea! Yum!

2. Confetti Drop

I can guarantee the only person who won’t like a confetti drop at your wedding is the one who’s cleaning it up. Confetti is like magical paper: the cost is relatively low and it has an enchanting effect. You can also use fresh flower petals or balloons, whichever you prefer.

3. Invest In Props

Oversized sunglasses, feather boas and blow up instruments are inherently fun, but when combined with a few pints, these props are even better. They’re also great for kids in attendance!

So your wedding photos are quite important aspect of the wedding, they will be looked back on in years to come. Who has not seen their parents or grandparents wedding day photos? I know in my house we have all seen my mother and fathers wedding day album at least 4 or 5 times and not to mention their wedding day photo that is hanging up proudly on the wall next to my grandparents wedding day photos.

1.Send invitations on a Wednesday.

Always plan to get your invites out on a Wednesday. This way, they arrive just in time for the weekend when people have a bit more free time and can RSVP right away.

2.Plan your RSVP window

Give yourself a 3-4 week window as an RSVP deadline. This way, you have plenty of time to call/text your stragglers and get a firm number turned into your venue, caterer and florist. Giving all your wedding professionals time to look for better deals and to locate locally grown is a great way to get more bang for your buck and wow your guests!

3.A priorities list.

At the beginning of your wedding planning set 1-3 priorities, these can be concrete items like I want all white roses or a rockin’ band or they can be concepts like ‘I want my wedding to feel like a upscale picnic.’  Whenever you are meeting with a vendor, making decisions on the wedding or just clicking through Pinterest, these priorities will help guide your planning and more importantly your budget.

4.Stay in season!

Use in season florals and elements for your wedding flowers and décor. This will save you a tremendous amount of money and also give a very seasonal feel to your event. Aisle florals can sometimes be used throughout your reception.  For instance you could transfer your arrangements to the banquet tables or your head table. You can also use your bouquets on the head table or your cake table as well.

5.Know your style.

Don’t create a false personality for your wedding. If you’re a clean-line, modern kind of person don’t do lace and burlap just because it’s flooding Pinterest. Your wedding should be a reflection of you as a couple not a copy and paste of every other wedding your guests might go to that summer.

A wedding bouquet is one of the most iconic parts of any wedding; a bride does not look complete without two things: a man on her side and a bouquet in her hands. But as the wedding planning is coming to an end, many brides realize that they put all this time and money into finding the perfect flowers only to have the flowers die within days of the wedding. Some brides wonder what they should do with their bouquets and if they will even regret tossing them out.

Because many brides become sentimental about their bouquets, even when they think they wouldn’t, we recommend holding on to them or doing something meaningful with them. If you have a loved one who has passed away, what would be a better way to honor them on your special day than by putting the flowers on their grave.

Figuring out how to preserve your wedding bouquet does not have to be too difficult. Generally, there are three ways that it can be done.

Hang the bouquet to dry. Hang your bouquet in a safe area, upside down for several weeks or months and they will dry nicely. You can then store them in a bouquet preservation box.Press them. This is fairly easy, costs  little, takes a little bit of time, and can be done by yourself. It is also a great way to make personalized art or stationary. This process  can take two to three months.Use  Silica gel. Don’t be deceived; silica gel is actually more like a sand that is found at large craft stores. You put the flowers in a container that is large enough to bury the flowers. After a few weeks, remove the flowers and dust off the powdery residue. This is perfect for sturdier flowers like peonies, roses, and zinnias. Plan on the flower getting a few shades darker. This process takes about two months.

The hardest part about preserving your wedding bouquet is that it needs to start when they are fresh, which means that most brides are on their honeymoons. We recommend asking a trusted bridesmaid a few weeks before the wedding if they would get it started for you. Make sure that you discuss the process enough that they feel confident enough to do it. Also, if you are getting them professionally preserved, make sure you have contacted the company and have made a reservation about a month before the wedding. If it needs to be delivered, it is best that it is in a cool container.

Another option is to save the petals from your bouquet, a cork from the wine. Write the date of your wedding on the ornament, perfect way to perserve these and to hang on your tree every year.

Give your guests a little sneak peek of your wedding by creating a thematic invatations. Stay in theme with your invitations. It’s a great idea to use visuals from a map and use them on your invitations like this one here.

Instead of using a regular guest book, have your guests sign a globe. Not only does it go well with the overall look and feel, it’ll make a great addition to your house or apartment to remember the day by.

Go all out with a paper bouquet like this one. Not just ordinary paper though. Have strips from a vintage map as material for your bouquet down the aisle. You can easily keep it afterwards too.

Pink and Grey seems to be the perfect combination for a wedding. We love the idea of having such a dramatic colour and using lighter tones to soften it. The addition of pink adds an air of romance and there is no dress more perfectly suited to this colour scheme than the D1702 from Essence of Australia. The blush pink tulle skirt would soften the grey tones and add a more whimsical fairy-tale feel to the wedding.

 How glamourous would these grey bridesmaid dresses look next to a blush pink gown? Pink rose bouquets would also soften the grey dress perfectly as well as acting as a link between the bride and her bridesmaids.

This is a 1920s inspired gown and we are in absolute love with the simplicity of gown. It has a Silk Moroccan skirt paired with a sophisticated blouson top in Parisian Silk Chiffon. We have some other of Martina Liana's gowns in the silk Moroccan and it's a breath taking fabric- so elegant, so we are really looking forward to seeing this on some pearls and lace brides at the weekend.

We can't believe it's Friday again! But we love the weekends here at Pearls and Lace and we are super excited to be welcoming lots of new brides this weekend to the Boutique! We also have lots of our own Pearls and Lace brides back to try their wedding dresses, for fittings appointments, accessories appointments...it will be busy one! 

Here's a little snippet of the things that we're loving this week...

Every week we have a new favourite colour combination here at the shop. When helping brides style their wedding dress and pick colours for their bridesmaid's dresses, we often advise brides to introduce a second complimentary colour into their wedding theme. Often brides feel if they pick a colour for bridesmaids they need to stick to accessorizing using this but a complimentary colour is brilliant for making your wedding really stand out. Especially if you are concerned that your colour has already been used by another bride you know. We are loving Peach & Mint Colour combinations at the moment!

Next up, who wasn't excited to hear Sarah Jessica Parker has launched her own wedding shoe collection and they are amazing as predicted! They are only available in the US at the moment but here's our favourite pair. I adore the 'something blue' on the heel! Carrie Bradshaw would be so proud!

When we aren't obsessing over weddings on Pinterest we're usually looking at interiors on Instagram. There is a few pages we love but Passion4interiors is our favourite Instagram page at the moment- it's filled with beautifully decorated spaces...beware you may loose an hour on this page! We're always looking for new ideas for our bridal boutique so it counts as work doesn't it?!

 We love weddings so always love hearing the details about the after party, honeymoon plans etc. and we are really loving this idea. A few of our brides this week have been discussing their outfit to wear the day after the wedding and are opting for these tulle skirts which are so on trend. We love the idea of wearing this the day after your wedding along with your wedding shoes again- this time when you can really see them! This is one of our favourite looks- tres chic! Plus check out the baby blue tulle skirts on Pinterest too! Gorgeous! 

We are quite the book worms in here and when we aren't reading blogs or wedding magazines, we normally have a book in progress and this week we're reading Girl Boss by Sophia Amoruso...quite the inspirational lady! It's more of a biography than anything but a nice bedtime read.

This week we are saying yes to the stunning D1848 dress from Essence of Australia! The timeless lace brings a simple elegance to the dress that we love. Ever wondered what goes on behind the scenes of an Xpose shoot?

Last week, our little Donegal Bridal Boutique had the pleasure and honour of doing a bridal piece with Xpose. We were delighted to be offered the chance to work with their amazing team to bring three 2016 bridal looks to Xpose viewers. Here's a little preview of what happened!

We worked along with fabulous stylist Holly White to put together three different 2016 styles into complete bridal looks. We love styling here at Pearls and Lace so this was right up our street. After having decided on the theme with Holly we chose three dresses (though we landed in Dublin with four- always prepared!) that we would film. We then went about styling these looks for three very different brides with different bridal accessories, wedding shoes, veils etc. 

We filmed the piece at the Westinn hotel just on college green in Dublin. What a stunning hotel...the high ceilings are to die for in this venue! 

The first gown we chose was from Essense of Australia's 2016 collection. We are really lucky to be one of the first stores in Ireland to have the Fall 2016 collection in stock already so Xpose was a brilliant way of introducing our new styles to 2016 brides! Our first wedding dress, D1934 from Essense is a beautiful, sexy lace-over-Imperial-Crepe sheath bridal gown. 2016 brides are moving a little away from vintage inspired wedding dresses and many of our brides are now asking for a sexier, more demure look.

Our model for the day, the absolutely gorgeous Holly Carpenter looked stunning in this dress. We'll do a separate post on the accessories we used with each look but this flowercrown which was supplied by the talented Shirley at oveblooms at super short notice was an absolute knockout with this dress! 

The next gown we chose was the stunning 690 from Martina Liana. The plain silk skirt and tattoo lace on the wedding dress makes is really stand out from the styles we have seen over the last few years. The Xpose team loved how this gown resembled Kim Kardashian's wedding dress (for her third wedding!). We styled this with just a crystal hair comb for a soft, paired back look for the modern bride. 

The final look of the day (and the Xpose team's favourite) was the amazing D1897 wedding dress from Essense of Australia. This is a crepe dress with amazing lace bodice and lace cut out detail train. The fit of this gown is amazing and once again Holly looked fabulous in it! This was our most elaborate look of the day with the most accessories and the amazing long lace edge veil which matches this wedding dress perfectly! Even our camera man was quite taken with this train! 

We had a fabulous day's fun filming with the two Hollys and the beautiful Lisa Cannon who's getting married herself in September. Her wedding sounds amazing- we'll be super excited to see those details! One of the most memorable moments of your wedding day will be stepping foot onto your wedding aisle and seeing the love of your life standing at the alter, waiting on his beautiful wife to be.

The ceremony is maybe the biggest part of your wedding day so why not have a aisle that wows with style, adding a personal touch is always a great way to do this. Here is my top 5 aisles with style p.s absolutely in love with number 4! How cute?! :)

Number 1: Gorgeous wedding aisle. lined with white rose petals! Simple but sweet.

 Number 2: Breathtaking church decor, in love with those tall flowers!

Number 3: Outdoor weddings have a fairytale atmosphere about them, this just looks like it came out of a book, just missing the horse and carriage :) 

Number 4: Now this is just the cutest aisle runner ever! I am definitely doing this for my wedding! 

 Number 5: Just wow!! This is just stunning, perfect for the wow factor if your budget permits this!

Romantic quotes on love and marriage are great for wedding days – they can fit in anywhere, from the speeches, to the decor, to the invitations, place names or table numbers. Even if you don’t want to use them directly, they should at least inspire you to have a think about how much you love each other and what marriage means to the pair of you.

We all have our favourite quotes about love, from a line from the notebook to a extract by Shakespeare there's no limit. There is a few ways I have found on sharing a special sentiment, on your wedding day.

Have a quote close to your heart? Craft a custom backdrop for your ceremony.

Decorate your car with a sign ( p.s also a great photo opportunity!)

Invest in a beautiful piece of art or get it hand crafted, this can double up by decorating your big day and home after the big day.

Write out your vows for an aisle runner this is very special and a pretty way to incorporate quotes to your wedding and also a great keepsake after the wedding.

A simple love quote makes a great prop for photos, or why not frame some of your favourite and sentimental quotes and use them as centre pieces.

Pink flowers are a symbol of young love and happiness. Allium, lilies and orchids represent spring and new growth in nature. Peony, wax flower, sunflower, hyacinth etc.

Summer (June-August)

Purple flowers symbolise balance and loyalty and look visually striking in any flower arrangement . Sweet pea, larkspur, anemone, peony etc.

Autumn (September – November)

Orange flowers are a symbol of energy and confidence, ranging from delicate pale shades to vibrant hues. Roses, marigold, dahlia etc.

Winter ( December-February)

Blue flowers are associated with serenity and calm. Blue flowers can vary from pale baby blue to deep midnight shades. Heather, tuberose, anemone, wax flower etc.

A bouquet that does not require water. It is made up of jewellery, flowers or fabric flowers for an unconventional and elegant look. A brooch bouquet is a stylish choice for a wedding bouquet. It’s a little piece from your big day that will be cherished forever, a timeless piece.

Metalic wedding themes have been around for years but this year we keep seeing a constant popular choice which is copper! Sliver and gold are classic colours but copper has been a big trend this year for weddings and its here to stay we can safely say!  "Rose Gold" as it is otherwise know is a beuatufil choice. This bright metallic hue is having a moment right now. From wedding décor to the grooms look, have a look at how you can infuse copper into your wedding.

It's Friday! Yay!

We've had a fab week here at the boutique...firstly we found out we are a finalist in the Bridal Buyer Awards as Best New Bridal Boutique in the UK and Ireland! We are beyond delighted and still on cloud nine from hearing this news! With a slightly heavy heart we also had our final visit from the lovely Nicola when she collected her wedding dress yesterday...we are always a little sad to see the girls head off with their beautiful wedding dresses but so excited for them that their big day is now so close! We can't wait to see her pictures and I know I'll be feeling super proud, Nicola was my first bride to say yes to the dress here in the boutique back in December! We've also had lots of fabulous new brides in the boutique this week who've found their dream wedding dresses and lots making appointments to come and see us soon so there is a great wedding buzz here which we just love! 

Here's a few other little things that we are loving this week....

 (It's Peony Season! This is my favourite flower and I had them in my wedding bouquet too! Peonies are in season now so widely available so I've decided to make the most of it!  They have really brightened up the boutique, my desk, my dressing table....did I mention I loved them?! lol) 

 (We are drooling every morning over this Instagram page- Modaxhair...go check them out! Their wedding hair styles are just amazing and I just know lots of my brides would love these! I particularly love their loose half up, half down styles with creative use of bridal hair accessories throughout...gorgeous!) 

 (This wedding dress from Essense of Australia has literally been breaking hearts since it arrived into the store last week. We are in love with this gown-from the lace cap sleeves and bodice, amazing detailed back which isn't too low, plain skirt which hugs a bride's curves just fabulously and last but certainly not least....that train! We also love that it's so different and I predict this being one of our most popular trends for wedding dresses for 2016!) 

 (One of our brides arrived in this week for her first fitting with these Freya Rose wedding shoes...I wanted to keep them! They are a little pricey at over €400 but aren't they just fabulous! I love how these shoes are both plain yet fussy! ) 

 (My happiness planner has arrived! I am a huge fan of books and stationary and anything to do with positivity really so when I stumbled across this, I had to get it! 100 days off happiness....love it! Looking forward to starting this over the weekend!)
