Celebrity Inspired Plus Size Wedding Dresses
There's always that moment when a wedding car passes or when you spot a wedding party outside a hotel when you excitedly try to grab a glimpse of the bride and her gown! And celebrity weddings are no different....I remember myself excitedly waiting for photos of Amal Aladmuddins gown as she married George Clooney in what could be noted as one of the most stylish weddings of the decade! The thing with a celebrity wedding is though, you are never quite sure what to expect and some celebrity brides don’t always get it right. Here are just some of the celebrities that said 'I Do' in dresses that we loved. These are all celebrity inspired bridal looks that we think any plus size bride could pull off. In these dresses you’ll feel confident, beautiful and in some cases just like a princess!
First up, the beautiful Amal Alamuddin married George Clooney in a beautiful bespoke 'Oscar De La Renta' Wedding Dress. Understated Elegance and Sheer Beauty- this is our favourite Celebrity Wedding Dress since Kate Middleton married Prince William! We loved the lace on this gown which made it a timeless look. She was the first celebrity bride to rock an off the shoulder look and it has become so popular since, it will be one of the biggest trends for 2020 & 2021 Brides.
You can get Amal's look with our gorgeous lace off the shoulder gown from Stella York. This is one of our favourites in our Plus Size range. Like Amal’s, this dress is a relaxed fit and flare silhouette. The straps can be worn off the shoulder as pictured, or on the shoulder for brides looking for a dress that they can wear a regular bra with. The sheer detail on the back gives it a modern romantic feel (so not too much lace!) and we adore the sweetheart neckline. This neckline is very flattering on a fuller bust.
While her first wedding dress divided opinions, everyone loved Meghan Markle's second wedding dress which she wore to the evening reception/ party. We loved the high halter neck detail on her, which sparked another key trend of gorgeous racer style necklines for brides. We love this look for a curvier bride as the neckline is particularly good on a fuller bust. It provides support and comfort, it’s elegant but also modern and not ‘too covered up’.
Our gorgeous Essense D2174 wedding dress reflects her glamorous evening look perfectly. The mix of classic lace and modern details is perfect on this dress. The halter neckline and figure flattering fit and flare silhouette is similar to what Meghan chose. While Meghans dress has a completely open back, this gown features a romantic lace back. The train is breathtaking on this dress.
Since her wedding in 1956, Princess Grace's Wedding Dress has continually topped the polls as the most beautiful Wedding Dress of all time. The gown took over six weeks to make with three dozen seamstresses! Grace's dress featured rose point lace over silk netting which had been hand embroidered by two seamstresses and thousands of pearls were added to delicately enhance the pattern of the lace. Her dress was them paired with a delicate veil and 'Juliet' cap for a modern look, instead of the customary royal tiaras. When Kate Middleton stepped out for her marriage to Prince William, Duke of Cambridge, the world was dazzled not only by her natural beauty but her resemblance to Princess Grace. Kate was able to successfully capture the same timeless elegance with an updated and more modern approach to the classic gown worn by Grace. An Alexander Mc Queen creation, Kate's Dress featured an open V-neck ivory satin bodice that narrowed at her waist and flowed into a full skirt and 3metre train! The top of the dress featured more flesh, a sexier and more modern nod to Princess's Grace buttoned down lace top.
Both gowns subtly different and both among the top of the most beautiful Wedding Dresses ever created. This look is elegant, beautiful and as appropriate now as it was in 1956. This modest look and A-line silhouette also makes it a perfect look for a modern curvier bride! We are head over heels with this new Grace Kelly/ Kate Middleton look gown which has just arrived into our plus size collection in store. It features the same long sleeves with floral lace associated with this look. However, the sleeves on this dress are made of illusion tulle for a more up to date and on trend look.
The delicate sweetheart and soft V neck-line is perfectly flattering for a fuller bust. The ball gown skirt is finished with a horsehair hem which keeps the dress (and the overall look!) a light- as- air feel.
Another royal wedding- Princess Eugenie chose a low-back gown in an ivory brocade fabric, with gorgeous shoes by Charlotte Olympia. Eugenie's wedding dress was all about classic elegance. We loved the low back detail on it- not only was it edgier for a royal wedding, where protocol is normally very strict, but eugenie wanted a gown that would show a scar she has on her back from an operation. She’s the ultimate role model for body confidence and celebrating our bodies. Long sleeves are a must for royal weddings but not always a practical option for brides depending on season or climate of where they are getting married. We adore this gorgeous ball gown from Essense of Australia which features some of our favourite details from Eugenie’s dress without the obligatory long sleeves. This classic satin ballgown features a plunging sweetheart neckline that seamlessly flows into banded off-the-shoulder straps, highlighting your neck and shoulders beautifully. This is a really flattering neckline for brides with a fuller bust and stills offers a little coverage on the arms. The back dips slightly but isn’t too low to still wear a regular strapless bra which some plus size brides prefer. It’s all in the simple details with this dress, with pockets and buttons that extend the length of the train- it’s a classic yet modern dress and beautifully flattering.
